He also patiently serves as an adviser and mediator between Kyo and Benimaru. He also likes to teach youngsters about Judo in his free time. However, he has a very warm heart, as he always takes his time to coexist with nature and immerse himself there. Personality Edit ĭaimon always seems to have a very serious expression, and grunts a lot. In the KOF XIII, he and Benimaru both watch Kyo as he fights once again with Iori to an unknown result. Aware of the dangers involved while facing Those from the Past, he joins the tournament to make his students proud and to stay beside his friends. Although his teammates worry about endangering the stability of his professional career and dojo for the tournament, he assures them that he has and always will be fine. He is well aware of the current events since Benimaru explained everything he missed to him. Due to Shingo's incapacitated state from The King of Fighters XI, Goro agrees to reunite the Japan team, worried for his teammates. In the 2003 tournament, he joined Benimaru and Shingo once more before he goes back to attend to his dojo. To relive his team's glory days and to bring more fame to Judo, he enters with his old teammates and Shingo. Goro was reluctant to enter until he learned that Kyo came back to Japan. In 2001, Benimaru invites him to join the King of Fighters with him. Goro also became the mentor of his own dojo. During his absence from the King of Fighters tournament, he finally married and fathered a son. As was promised, he returns to the Judo circles and brings fame back to Japan. Goro agreed to follow his request after he finished his participation in the year's King of Fighters tournament. On the day before the 1997 tournament, his mentor begged him to return to his professional Judo career. He eventually befriends his teammates and continues to enter with them. A year later, he entered the 1994 King of Fighters tournament with Benimaru (second place) and Kyo. Although he got far into the finals, he lost against Kyo and was bumped to third place. He participated in Japan's mixed martial arts tournament to determine the members for the country's King of Fighters team. Goro is a former Olympic gold medalist for Judo. Ryūzaburō Ōtomo voices him in the Dengeki drama CD. His official nickname is The Rising Storm. In The King of Fighters '97, Orochi Yashirobecame his elemental rival, as both men share the ability to manipulate earth. It is also a homage to a Japanese phrase of giving birth to fire (roughly translated: lighting strikes the earth which sparks the flame). In the show, there were three featured heroes who served as the inspiration for the KOF trio: the protagonist had a "fiery" persona, his friend was "edgy and daring", and the third hero was the "down-to-earth giant". The idea for his earthquakes -as well as the other elemental powers for the rest of the Japan team- was derived from the anime Getter Robo. He shared the spot with Street Fighter character, Alex. In Gamest's 1997 Heroes Collection, Daimon was voted as the staff's forty-fourth favorite character. His character was created to add a practitioner of Judo to the cast and many elements from his original designs, such as his geta and his victory cries, remained for his final look. Goro Daimon (大門 五郎, Daimon Gorō) is a character who debuted as a member to the Hero Team in The King of Fighters '94, along with Kyo Kusanagi and Benimaru Nikaido.

Hannah Bellemare remembers fans approaching her husband and thanking him, telling him they were scared to go into public but Golden Knights games made them comfortable again. In the wake of the tragedy, Las Vegas residents rallied around the brand-new Golden Knights, who went on a storybook run and reached the Stanley Cup Final. A banner recognizing each of the victims still hangs from the rafters at T-Mobile Arena. The Golden Knights honored the victims at their home opener, projecting their names on the ice, and dedicated the game, a 5-2 win against Arizona, to the city of Las Vegas. The inaugural team played its first game less than two weeks after a mass shooting on the Las Vegas Strip killed 60 people and left hundreds more injured at a country music festival. “And those players will be remembered forever.” “He was one of the first players here,” said Dan Tafoya, Bellemare’s neighbor in Las Vegas. He and Hannah still have a house in Las Vegas and visit in the offseason, and the city’s feelings of appreciation haven’t faded just because he’s moved onto a rival club. He spent only two years playing for Vegas, but his personality, playing style and community involvement made him a fan favorite. “He wanted to do something more immersive.”īellemare, now on the Colorado Avalanche and playing against Vegas in the second round of the playoffs, consistently showed this spirit throughout his time with the Golden Knights, who selected him in the 2017 expansion draft. Follow our Tampa Bay Times sports team on Twitter and Facebook.“He decided that he wanted to not just talk to people,” Bellemare’s wife, Hannah, said recently. Never miss out on the latest with the Bucs, Rays, Lightning, Florida college sports and more. Encina that brings you closer to the ice. Sign up for Lightning Strikes, a weekly newsletter from Bolts beat writer Eduardo A. It’s a high-risk play, but kind of my role is to be a little bit defensive and this is the kind of play that I have to be confident doing at times to be good for this team.” “The coaches trust us to put us in there (late in the game). So I was like, if I put as much of my body in front of it it shouldn’t go through, and lucky enough he went right in my mitt. And I saw that (Bjorkstrand) didn’t have full control. “I felt like I was kind of in a really awkward position. Had Bellemare not made the play, Bjorkstrand was one of three Kraken skaters heading the other way for an odd-man rush and a likely Grade-A scoring chance.Īsked whether the play was more luck than skill, Bellemare called it “a little bit of both.” “Oof, I got lucky,” Bellemare said afterward. Sometimes when it’s really close, it’s a little bit tougher.Ī pass from Victor Hedman to Bellemare at the point landed on Kraken forward Oliver Bjorkstrand’s stick, but Bellemare recovered, sealing off the blue line by going down to one knee and stopping Bjorkstrand’s pass with his left glove to keep it in the offensive zone. “And that shot was kind of in a perfect range. “My first thought process is, like, make sure that my stick is in play, make sure it’s somewhere there so that I can have the shortest time going down or up in case I can tip it in if the shot is close enough,” Bellemare said. Bellemare had his back to the puck, so Grubauer couldn’t see when Bellemare reached out his blade to redirect the puck for his second goal of the season. He set a screen, as did Vladislav Namestnikov in the slot, creating a lane for Cole to shoot through. When you have some depth, it helps you win some hockey games, and in a game like (Monday’s), when (Nikita Kucherov) or (Steven Stamkos) or (Brayden Point) isn’t getting one, you need somebody like ‘Belly’ to get it for you, and it turns out to be a big one for us.”Īfter Corey Perry kept possession of the puck in the offensive zone and fed Cole at the left point, Bellemare went to the top of the crease. “And that’s the difference with some teams. “It’s depth,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. But it wasn’t until Bellemare deflected an Ian Cole shot past goaltender Philipp Grubauer with 1:17 left in the period that the Lightning were rewarded with a goal, the game’s only tally in the first two periods. In a first period that saw the Lightning make 25 shot attempts (15 on goal), they were sustaining zone time and pressuring the net. Accurately you making two items and then trade with a guy in camp for the Sub Tanks. This is how you get two of the four Sub Tanks. You collect parts form defeated Reploids and can try to combine them into something useful. Getting new chips in the game for the head, body, and feet are nigh impossible. Of course, you have to feed the thing to have a wider selection of choices. Now you have one big Elf that as you beat bosses you can assign more points with. Ammo varies depending on what enemy you killed. but if you kill a normal enemy with it you get their weapon. The Recoil Rod has been replaced, AGAIN! (Didn't see that coming did you?) The new weapon is the Zero Knuckle. One is significantly easier, but you don't get the boss' ability. Now, you have a weather system that can change the weather in the stage into one of two different conditions. The whole "must have an A on the last mission to get the boss' ability" is gone. It's a cool cosmetic touch I didn't expect, and with 100 unlockable cards there are many more secrets I haven't unlocked.Unfortunately, it’s the last Megan Man Zero. For example, turning on some of the earlier bonus cards adds plants, paintings, and other touches to the Resistance Base in Mega Man Zero 3. There are also bonus cards you unlock through playing, and you can activate them to unlock extras in the games themselves. There is a massive gallery of art for all six games, with high-resolution images available to scroll through and enjoy. I would love to see more in-depth bonus features delving into the series' development. My one gripe is it plays it pretty safe: it has exactly the kind of bonus content you've come to expect at this point, and only scratches the surface of the series' history. When a collection has games as strong as these, it lives or dies by the quality of its extra content, and I'm happy to say Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection does. The Zero/ZX art style is a personal favorite, so I found myself swapping out wallpapers fairly regularly just to enjoy a change of scenery. There are also loads of wallpapers to choose from, and I didn't find a bad one in the bunch, to be honest. Capcom, if you're reading this, please patch in a vertical orientation for ZX and ZX Advent in handheld mode! Tons of other retro games on Switch support the vertical orientation, including individual games on collections like the SNK 40th Anniversary and SEGA Ages. The two DS games would benefit enormously from compatibility with something like the Flip Grip, a $12 plastic device that allows you to hold the Switch sideways. The ZX games, originally released on DS, have several layout options for the DS' second screen, but there's no portrait mode for use on the Switch, which is a massive bummer. Unfortunately dialogue is largely unskippable, which can be real annoying when you're trying to beat a boss.Īpart from the filters, there are different screen layouts you can choose from, the number of which differs whether you're playing Mega Man Zero or ZX games. It's exactly the kind of corny, jargon-heavy anime storyline I love in my video games. Throughout the entire series there's a lot of talk of cyber-elves and Neo Arcadia, Bio-Metals, Reploids, E-Crystals, sacrifice, and betrayal… in other words, it rules pretty hard. Mega Man ZX and Advent are set even further in the future, in the year 25XX, when humans and Reploids exist in harmony. If you're not familiar with the plot of the Mega Man Zero series, here's a quick rundown: 100 years after the events of the Mega Man X series, legendary warrior Zero is reactivated to help fight in the war between humans and Reploids, a race of human-like robots based on the original Mega Man X. The Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam is even better, because it brings all four of the original Mega Man Zero GBA games and both DS games into one convenient package. Mega Man and Mega Man X are some of my favorite series in all of gaming, but I slept on the Mega Man Zero series when it came to Game Boy Advance starting in 2002 and first realized what I was missing when the Zero Collection came out on DS in 2010. The GamePad and Pro Controller are both supported (the map and in-game SMS messages heavily based on Japan’s real LINE app pop up on the former, so it is preferred), though strangely, it’s one of the only Wii U games that doesn’t support Off-TV play. You can fast-forward and even skip scenes outright. There’s an auto-text forwarding option if you’re sick of the dialogue. Its relation is tangential to the experience - this is mostly a Shin Megami Tensei game.Īll of the ancillary nuts-and-bolts stuff checks out. They’re basically Personas (which fit right along with the focus on the parallel universe), they’re just based on Fire Emblem characters - like a ghastly Chrom and an insectoid-looking Shiida. Games have done both in the past, though it’s not a common occurrence and they gel wonderfully here in Mirage Sessions. As time went on and I had the power to complete meaningful side quests for more skills, craft my own weapons, and develop (albeit rudimentary) social links, the fatigue started to take a backseat (even if it’s always in the rear view mirror).Īs a note, when combat begins, players will do battle using their acquired friendly Mirage forms with a party of three that can be swapped at any time with no penalty. With a turn-based tint, players can use a wide variety of support and offensive abilities, as well as take advantage of the Fire Emblem-inspired rock paper scissors system in tandem with the SMT/classic JRPG elemental concepts. Yet, the open-ended nature of the combat mechanics help dig those problems out. The straightforward, yet often time-wasting light puzzles also aren’t a ringing endorsement. While there is never really any hard requirement to grind, the dungeon angle does feel a bit repetitive and tired at points, and many of them blend together in a jarring way. You have your typical “select your next location from a map” menu, field sequences, story exposition, cutscene, and dungeon loop. One thing that is formulaic however is the progression system. They have a surreal quality to them, and kudos to the team for creating a world this hypnotizing from scratch, without drawing too heavily on existing franchises. Some zones even remind me of certain scenes in Clockwork Orange, most notably the record store. It’s a cool concession that’s likely wielded for emotional impact, to invoke a feeling of loneliness of sorts for the protagonists, but most of the time it just feels like a design limitation on Wii U. Despite that, the constant reminder that you’re not playing on a cutting-edge console is overshadowed by the gorgeous art. The only thing I didn’t really dig aesthetically is the shaded crowd mechanic, which makes most NPCs look like blobs of color. You, however, might not - so it’s something to be aware of. The opening even reminds me of some of the more alienating out-there anime like Utena, and I say that in the most endearing way possible, because I live for this stuff. It’s entirely subtitled with Japanese audio (there’s no dub in sight), contains catchy, poppy tracks, and has a huge focus on Tokyo as a city and idol culture. It’s easy to predict and very formulaic throughout, but it’s equally easy to get invested in. From there it morphs into a shonen framed around the secret society of Fortuna, and the young Itsuki’s quest to set things right. It’s not overly dark, mind, but it sets the tone that you’re dealing with a formidable force. With portals that transport people into another dimension called the Idolsphere, inhabited by terrifying creatures called Mirages, the opening is some real Leftovers rapture type stuff. It’s something you rarely see outside of the occasional RPG like Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, but Atlus also manages to blend some darker elements in as well. That goes double for the lovely anime sequences, as well as the heavy focus on music, since the story revolves around a group of idols with superpowers. With its bright, bold world to the colorful snazzy menu screens, Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE is a wonderful respite from the drab grimdark focus of so many other developers. You can tell it’s an Atlus joint right from the start. Now it’s finally being released worldwide as Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE, and while it’s not as memorable as a lot of Atlus’ other marquee JRPG work, it was worth the wait. Announced with great fanfare in 2013, we heard very little about the project for two years, until a trailer came along almost to proclaim “Yes, we are still here.” For a while there, it was easy to forget that Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem existed. The next challenge is a game, marble toss. You know you need to go there if on the top right hand corner (in island mode) you see Current Challenge: None. You will be given games, hints, or different challenges. From there just click on the next challenge in line. You can also press the escape progress button and be taken to the list. Talk to the tiki guy again for another challenge. Finishing this game unlocks a radio part. If you notice a bottle on the beach by the original crash site, take a castaway to it and you are taken to a word jumble game. I always kept a few more gathering wood, then there were building, as the wood supply goes down very fast when you only have 50 available. Once you build a hut, one more castaway is added to the tribe/group. You will quickly run out of wood and the castaway building will have to stop. I suggest keeping your one castaway cutting wood while the other one builds. Then drag your castaway to the hut to build. It has a black background, when it turns green you are able to click and put it down. If you click on the build button and then click on small hut you are give a hut to drag around the island. Once you reach 50 you unlock the ability to build a small hut. Drag your castaways to trees until you see the axe symbol appear and they will collect the wood. Talk to the tiki to get your first challenge to collect 50 wood. If you talk to the Tiki guy you first went to he will continue to give you challenges. If you hit the escape progress button you see a map and also a list of challenges not completed. You then learn how to drag your castaways to the trees to cut wood. The first thing you need to do is talk to the tiki and that unlocks the axe. There is also a tutorial on that guides you through learning some of the steps.
